Nope, never been to a Paul Ford lecture. I used these files as a kid - you can remove a lot of material with a saw-file and they don't clog. Thought it might be the ticket for rough shaping epoxy and plaster.
I tried www.hardwicks.com and reached a site that is under construction - no info.
I stopped by Lee Valley Tools at lunch [left the wallet in the car ;-)], the salesman knew of the saw-files but he had not seen one in a long time.
I am in Ontario, Canada. Have you seen these saw-files some where they can be mail ordered?
