The link below has some good info/specs on the various type of plywood including a variety of marine grades with the BS1088 rating. Others can probably give you more in-depth explanations, but one of the larger differences is WEIGHT. Even with the same "Lloyd's" rating, different types of wood vary dramatically in weight.

Other factors being equal, I'm stickin' with the lightest weight I can afford.
