Speaking of stems. Putz's dimensions are not exactly the same a Skene's. I was squinting at Skene's drawings in Appendix A of Putz's book, Skene's bow upright is 4" shorter than Putz's. When I built my Putz, I made the bow 1" higher than Putz's plans called for. The wook version is going to be 3" higher than that. This will put it around where Skene called for it to be. The bow will catch more wind, but Putz's design had the stern catching too large of a percentage of the wind. Does anybody know where to get a legible copy of Skene's original plans?
The boat he based it off of is the S.W. Greenland Kayak in Adney and Chappelle's "Skin Boats and Bark Canoes of North America" I may by making a run to the Border's book store, I saw it there. This boat is sized for an Inuit, but I might fit in it.
