Has anyone come up with a good way to mount their GPS unit that they'd care to share?

I've come to really appreciate the thing as an aid to navigation when used with a mounted compass and frequent ranging. But my unit, sold as 'waterproof', gets knocked off the deck every now and then. I think that the sudden immersion into the cold water after being heated up on the deck causes such a drop in interior pressure that it effectively sucks water in. And I'm not talking deep submerging either, as my lanyard keeps it from going much past the sheer.

If the only alternative is a clear waterproof bag, then why bother selling it as 'waterproof' or 'it floats!' and getting more money for that feature? In the end, it now looks like I'll be driving the Magellan warranty repair department into the ground, as with each failure I send the sucker in and get a new one. This last time around, though, I've applied sealer everywhere I can see a seam, and I've installed a second gasket at the battery box, so maybe it's approaching water resistance. Maybe the next step will be to dip it in silicone with each fresh set of batteries?

Or am I the sucker for believing that waterproof nonsense in the first place?

As a practical yet disturbed recluse I'm willing to try just about any mounting idea that doesn't look like it was designed by a practical yet disturbed recluse. The functional objective is to mount it in an adjustable, somewhat upright position somewhere a little forward of the cockpit within arms' reach. I can't read it if it's flat on the deck, and depending on the light it needs to be turned from side to side.

Simple would be nice. I'd rather not cut anymore holes in the deck, but if it comes to it... . But then I'd have a drainage problem.
