In Response To: Alternatives to Oak? (Jack Gilman)
I've driven by it a couple of hundred times but never stopped in for a closer look. But with Jack searching for oak bending stock I thought I'd give it a try. Board Silly Custom Sawmill (203-438-3631) is located on Rt. 7 in Ridgefield, CT. Bud claims that they have everything from ash to walnut, including white oak. He said they don't often get clear straight grained oak. He suggested that you might want to consider ash. He says they do usually have ash suitable for steam bending. Their business seems to be rough sawn boards. I'm not sure they do much, if any, surface planing or cutting to size.
