I've had some boats that didn't come together easily. The first tape in the middle didn't hold. but I got the sides as close to lined up as I could then worked further up the seam. By incrementally moving along the seam I can get it pulled together. While one piece of tape may not be enough to bring the gap together, 10 pieces can probably do it.
