Sounds to me like you really want a baidarka of either the Dyson or Brink mold. Before you reject that idea, consider that your description fits the description of what it is like to paddle one of those skin-on-frame boats. As for a beautiful kayak, just check out Gardner Congdon's interpretation at the So. Cal Builders page (it's at the very bottom of the list).
