Larry:

One more thought about the staples. I was using staples and form material that were almost the same width. I had trouble early on lining up the stapler so that both prongs drove into the form material. I would sometimes miss to the left or right and have one prong sticking into the air.

A safety aside here, Don't be like me, keep your fingers away from the business end of the stapler. I sometimes like to use my free hand on the back side of a workpiece I cannot see to help me "feel" for the right positioning. You know, like letting your fingers be your eyes to align things... Anyway, I'm here to tell you that a stapler that can drive a piece of steel through your cedar and plywood won't have the least bit of trouble driving through your finger. And you'll have plenty of time to contemplate your error, cause you'll want to use that finger again.. If this sounds like the voice of experience, it is. I learned after only two fingers were perforated.

But the real reason was because I had little room for error on the stapler. I fixed the problem by angling the stapler so that the crosspiece of the staple was not parallel to the strip, but at about a 45 deg angle to it. That effectively brought the prongs closer together, and I had plenty of room in the width of the form for the staple. It also gave the row of staples a cool angled row look, kinda like /////////////

Hope this saves you a band-aid or two.
