How about another two cents worth. Have you ever built one of those saw horses with the metal brackets?? Well, build yourself about 5 sets of sawhorse legs just high enough to clear the kayak/canoe when cradled about 6 inches off the ground, and put your mega sawhorse over it and the tarp over that. No snow will sit directly on top of it and with a few 1x2's or 4's as purlins you would have a good chance of keeping it in tact, as well as your boat. For what it's worth.......
