Thanks Ross, Thats a good idea, I'm planning to make my the hatches with shock cord holding them down from the inside. I think I'll incorporate the hooks into a couple of little strongbacks like you suggest. It should look like I meant to make it that way!
P.S. All the problems faded when I looked at how great the boat looked in one piece (packing tape remove) and started dreaming of paddling, maybe next weekend!
