How about using Pete's ceiling rack, making sure it is mounted through the ceiling into the trusses and then bungying the kayak to the rack? You could even use light motorcycle straps to mount the boat to the rack. The only way this should come down is if the house does first.
A strapping young lad, such as yourself, shouldn't have trouble lifting the kayaks up there using a short stool. {:o)
I personally like the idea of having the kayak in the living area!
