I have kept windsurfers, surfboards etc. overhead in my garage for years...use the pulley setup mentioned in the other post but where you attach the loop around the boat run another line from bow to stern on the boat and tie it off at each lifting point . that keeps the lifting loops from sliding off the end of the boat when you pull up one end at a time.

on a negative note..I've been keeping my son's Mill Creek 13 overhead in the garage with just a strap attached to the ceiling joist in 2 places..when I tried to take it down 2 weeks ago I slipped and dropped one end. the boat fell onto the alum stepladder I was standing on and the corner of the ladder punched a 12 inch hole through that one piece okoume deck ...next time I will go to the trouble of using the same pulley setup I use with my windsurfers..
