My kayak resides up in the roof of the barn, hanging from its grab loops, suspended on two hooks screwed into the rafters. If I'm feeling strong, I pick the whole boat up and take it down. If I'm not feeling strong, I do one end, and then the other.
Eventually, I'll replace the hooks in the rafters with pulleys. Or at least snake a rope through it all. But that hasn't happened yet. I was going to use two ropes, one for each end. Until I realized I can do just fine with one, and reduce the lifting load by half.
