Don't be afraid to use some coarser grit paper in your RO sander and fairing board. I've successfully used 60 grit on some boats and didn't feel the need to use anything finer afterwards. Find a grit that cuts the hard stuff and then do as little sanding as possible with finer stuf to get rid of the scratches. Keep the the stiff sanding pad on until the last light sanding. Move the sander quickly.
