Well I say, bonny good job, asking here first. Easier than going to the Library, cheaper than buying a book. And, you'll probably get a more eclectic collection of opinions here than from one or two authors.
Go to the top of this page, and click on the "Building " link. Once there, look for the heading about " Ray Jardine and his wife building a carbon fiber double." They did basiclly what you are thinking about for one of thier boats. Lots of good pictures to give you some ideas.
Keep in mind that some of the best inventions and greatest discoveries came from some yahoo that had the guts to ignore the "Laws of Physics" or "scientific facts". Who knows?...you may end up with a better mouse trap!
