Just thought I'd throw in a clarification for non-Michiganders and/or those who are geographically challenged:

Michigan is available in two versions; Upper Peninsula and Lower Peninsula. They are separated by the Mackinac Bridge, a.k.a. the 'Mighty Mac', a 5-mile long suspension bridge. Therefore those of us in the Lower Peninsula are on Nancy's 'wrong side';-) The Straights of Mackinac not only separates the U.P. from the L.P., it also separates Lake Huron from Lake Michigan, and is the site of some GREAT kayaking.

We have some very senic spots in the Lower Peninsula, but Nancy is right -- the U.P. has some impressive, raw nature. And great kayaking in that raw nature. On the other hand, most people who live in the U.P. have on average 3 teeth, 2 1970's vintage Ford pickups, and wear a lot of flannel, camoflauge, and blaze orange...;-)

The Gales of November is a reference to the lyric in the Gordon Lightfoot song 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' about a large iron ore freighter that sank in heavy seas on Lake Superior one November.
