As I recall, this is not much more than a 2x4 beam. Sounds like it should be a simple thing to stretch it by adding either 6 inches at each end, or a foot at just one end. Add a suitably sized block of wood, and secure it inline with the rest of the strongback by the use of a few mending paltes made from scraps of plywood screwed over the joint.
This patchwork will make that section of the strongback wider, so slide on the forms that go in the middle before you attach the extra piece(s).
You might not even need this. All you really need is a bit of extra support for the very end pieces (the bow and stern forms) and you could probably make a simple brace or two from scrap wood. Just make sure you do not secure the form so well that it can not be removed easily once you build the boat around it.
