Another way:

Late at night when everybody has gone home from the city - skulk along all the back alley dumpsters for old flourescent light tubes. Use them as an armature and then smash the ends and shake out the glass.

(Unfortunatley it looks as if the resulting diam would be too large at abt 1.5" after layup.- oh well)
