Mike After reading your post on the tubes, I ran in and tore off all the Xmas wrapping on one of last years left-over paper rolls. Alas, 1 1/2" also. But, it made me think ( and that ain't easy for a Postal-Employee )about cardboard. what about a tube of 3/4" PVC wrapped in corrugated(sp.?) cardboard. Then wrapped in the barberpole fashion, then reversed. Pull the PVC out, and if the cardboard is coated or covered, it should slide out also. Any takers on that one??
