Mike, I too paddled the Night Heron and the Expedition at the Rendezvous and had a little different feeling about the two (I did not paddle the Guillemot 17). The Night Heron seemed to turn too easily and did not track as well as the Expedition. It is probably a good choice for Nick's intended use but I think The Expedition Offers everything I could want in a boat. It tracks very straight as you noted. I found that it also turned VERY easily with just a little edgeing on its somewhat hard chine and when really layed over it turns a very sharply. The other things I noted was its speed. It was one of the fastest boats I have ever paddled and an added bonus was a great initial stability that let me relax, With the Night Heron I was not so relaxed.
This was just my observations, your mileage may vary----- I'am building the expedition!!!
