Hi Don
I agree with your using the smaller skillsaw blade on the table saw, but,am wondering about having to plane the pieces afterward. Maybe I misunderstood. You should have a pretty smooth surface after using the tablesaw. Are you using a carbide blade, or do they even have one in the thin kerf?? If so, and you are using that, what kind of marks are you getting?? Could be that you are experiencing a fence that is not straight with the blade. If so, that is curable. Also, the more teeth, the smoother the cut. But, the trade off would be that you have to change the feed rate to keep from burning the wood.
Also, I would not think a little roughness would be a problem as you have to sand and/or scrape the surface anyway. On the glued side, it doesn't have to be perfectly smooth and you don't really want it to be, as the glue adheres better to a slightly fuzzy or rough surface. ( Not too rough though )
