The article believe it or not wasnt a sway in my decision. Ironicaly tho I AM going with the 18' model WestRiver. The Chesapeake 17 seemed like a good choice, but I like the narrower beam of the West at just 22" compared to 24" for the Chessie. With much gusto I had originally intended to go with Nicks 20" beamed Night Heron. Perhaps its not a bad idea too tho to get a little more experience in a wider kayak before I go ultra high performance. I liked the idea of the ultra narrow tho, kinda the same way i love those skinny skinny skinny tires on my Cannondale... speaking of which, I need to get my weight down again.
