Why put the gasket on the side that exposes it to damage, catching dirt, and more difficult to repair or clean. I believe that these can be lessened if the gasket is attached to the hatch.

If you use a light mist of spray glue on the lip, I believe the saran wrap can be layed down flat easier. (Or if gasket on kayak - mist the hatch cover w/ spray glue and lay down the saran on the hatch cover.

But I think its great you've got such good results. How did you make sure that the hatch was flush all the way around?
