What they saw in the guy in the movie (other than the fact that the character was played by Kevin Costner) is a young, tormented guy who is still frank and honest. Somewhat of a fixer-upper. My wife fooled me into watching it with her--I was disappointed to find that a movie about sailing and boatbuilding was really a big mushy love story. At least his boat didn't sink in the end.
