Jim, I had problems with the fence on my table saw and that is why I designed the strip mill. A band saw may save some wood but will the strips be uniform thickness. My strips are all within a .005" tolerence for all 1500 LF. I have found that strips that are not the same thickness make it more difficult to get coves and beads that match well. The Stripmill™ takes off unwanted high spots as well as removing saw blade marks and makes all rough surfaces smooth. This should make for easier fairing. A second use for the mill setup is the scrap thin strips that are the last strip on a board are now all 3/16" or 1/8" for paddle blades or other projects. I know a good quality table saw or band saw can produce good strips but I have neither. This is my low budget thickness planer.
