I am not familiar with "gaboon" but I just wanted to mention that there is a lot of stress put on the panels when forming the hull of a Yare.

I believe that the standard has to do with the panel fabrication (re: voids, glues, etc.) rather than the strength of the material.

If you can't confirm that gaboon is as strong as okoume then I would suggest that you stay with the okoume.
