Mike...thanks for the comments on the lofting process and possible errors in offset tables as this was the information I was looking for. I'm new at this as I stated and the only way to find out is to ask questions. If being new at this makes me an "irresponsible" builder, then I guess I'm guilty. In all fairness, I think you would have to agree that some experience helps in determining what is "common sense" in finding errors.

One point I must take exception with is your implication that because I did not buy the plans for $50 I somehow deserved something second rate. I had invested many more times that amount in time and materials that centred around building this boat. My posting was made *after* I had cut material, some of which is now scrap. In addition to spending lots on books (more than the plans cost), investing a great deal of time researching everything I could get my hands on, I guess it's hard not to feel a little disappointed in an otherwise really exciting experience.I also wonder how many more people like me were trusting enough to think they could actually build a boat from the article.

It's not about 4$ vs $50...it's about taking pride in your work (as is demonstrated by the amazing builders I've seen here on this board) even if it means checking the figures and then checking them again. If you still make an error, take whatever steps necessary to ensure minimal damage is done to your customers down the road. It's how I've always run my businesses and found it's always appreciated...some call that good public relations.

Sea Kayaker and CLC are both held in high regard by me as I would never let a "faux pas" like this distort all the great things they are both doing in their respective businesses. I'll conceed my "opinion" could be construed as "Whining" however I'd prefer to think of it as a learning opportunity...I know I've learned a great deal, and for that I'm gratefull.

Ok now...it's time to get back building boats.

Doug
