Advice on butt joints

I've decided to build SWIFTWOOD's float with butt joints ( for the sake of trying something different )

Not having tried it, I was wondering what advice you folks have

I figured I'll do the fiberglass tape route, as oppose to backing them with strips of wood.

Please note these are for tortured hulls.
