Wayne -- I'm a new builder also, but yes, the edges should be beveled. In the instructions for my Merganser, I'm told to try and bevel the edges with respect to how they will meet. Also, in a recent bulletin from CLC, Chris suggests rounding over the edges so at least they don't slip. Good Luck, Greg
