Well, I did not wait for all the input to come in. I did just knock off the corner with a rasp and removed very little wood. It did make the alignment easier (at least for a novice) and I don't think I have compromised the dimensions. I will stick to the script from now on.

I really appreciate all of the experienced comments and thoughtful help for a new comer.
