Again, get the kids to do this for you. But, if you insist on doing it yourself, sign up with Yahoo (www.yahoo.com) for a free email account and you will be eligible for a free webpage from Geocities. Actually, you are getting web SPACE, and you can create as many pages and illustrations as can fit in this space.

YOU can call any of these 'home' pages. I believe Geocities looks for the one that has the ending of /index.html by default.

15 minutes of surfing and reading through the directions will get you to the point where you can upload a homepage and some pictures. In uploading you are basically transferring a copy of the files on your computer into the storage space of their computer. It is just a little different from sending a file attached to an e-mail, but it is just as easy, particularly if you remember the exact name of the file you are transferring. (hint: Jot it down on a note pad.)

Each image is a separate file and has a separate name, which is part of its URL.

Worry more about the URLs for the pictures. You can basically ignore the fancy homepage creation process, if you like. There is no real need for anyone to actually see your homepage! All you really need is an address on their computer so you can link your pics to here and show us.

The whole process is pretty simple. If you save the scans of your photos as compressed files (J-peg --.jpg -- compression is popular), with low resolution then the files for the photos will be reasonably small and should upload rapidly. On the other hand, if you try to upload the huge file you get when you first scan your photos it will take quite a while.

If you totally screw up, start over and upload new documents. Delete the old ones only if you are sure they are not linked to some application.
