Thanks for all your responses. I really only wanted to use the light glass to get a little bit of abrasion/ding resistance. I never expected it to provide any appreciable structural benefit.
I'm looking for the glass to arrive today, and if I'm diligent, I may be ready to use it this weekend. I'll keep you all posted.
