I scarfed mine in place on the kayak. I cut the joint, put the two pieces in place, cut the ends to fit then glued the piece in and the joint at the same time. A clamp at the joint holds it together great. worked fine (except when I screwed up and it didn't) Earl
The biggest problem so far: A scarfed 20'
