Hi Tom: The Tursiops (Latin for Blue-nosed Dolphin) is a 15' x 28" hard chine plywood over frame kayak designed by Mike Alford. I built one from plans from Wooden Boat Magazine. It is very seaworthy. I would like to know how to build one using the stitch and glue method of construction to save on weight, eliminating the framework. The plans stated the approx weight at 44 lbs, but mine is more like 54 lbs. I have also built an Artic Tern 17' from Pygmy, It is faster and lighter than the Tursiops, But has less initial stability. So for fishing I use my Tursiops, and to travel longer distances faster I use the Tern. I have heard about the Artic Tern 14' but so far I haven't seen or heard anything more. Has anyone out there built one' if so I would like to here more about it.
