I have never built a Kayak only model sail boats. About your referance to Acco binder clips. I use them when building a model (I build them strip plank over stations). I put a paper clip in the binder clip so when I clamp on the station the paper clip pulls the plank into position. I have only used this with very small planking 1/8".
