One of the Mikes on this page (sorry, I can't remember the last name) posted a searies of ideas for low-profile or flush deck fittings, etc. Do the archive search with the string "A Fitting Reprise." I think there were 13 different hand sketches that were done on graph paper, if that's what you were thinking of.
About the webbing epoxied through the deck, though: I remember Nick posting the concern that refinishing the deck would be more difficult with these type of non-removeable loops. I think the idea of silicone-ing them in place would be better, since you could yank them out when you go to refinish the boat in a few years, then silicone them back in. Make the loops with a small plastic backing plate and pull them up into position until the silicone dries.
