Ray hasn't done any more kayaks but he did another arctic expedition in a Coleman canoe bought in K-mart or some such place. 800 miles down a river and several hundred along the coast. You can read about it in paddle magazine. I guess the cheap canoes are easier to sell so you don't have to fly them out.
The guy is intense if nothing else. I met him in Yosemite back in the 70s. I thought I was obsessed with climbing. He was a maniac working day after day on these incredibly hard 5.12 problems until he could solve them. His latest kick is all raw diet with no cooked food.
Not a bad life if you can live the royalties of your invention.
