Hi All;
On Stapleless Construction : I have completed 6" from the sheer up toward the keel on both sides - - I have learned quite a lot while doing this. The next step is to put the keel strips in place, and then fill in the rest of the hull. Hey, that's 17 ft^2 so far! And no staples or nails . . .
The bevels are absolute cake, as it is very, very hard to produce a bad bevel. If I have the time, I will explain this more completely on my website. In essence, an undercut or overcut here or there means absolutely nothing, as you will automatically adjust the next strip for the error, and all manner of bevel angles will fair out to the same identical surface. The little sharp corners will be in different locations, but the faired surfaces will nonetheless be the same. I thought I was performing miracles with the plane until I recognized this fact . . .
I have a few blunders so far, a gap here and a misalignment there. It seems inevitable. Fit it up, test it again, spread the glue, clamp it, check it all out, and when you examine the finished product you simply cannot believe that you missed that offset near station 8! It all looks minor thusfar, no really visible screw-ups, Whew!
Got to go to classes again the whole weekend, next kayak time scheduled for Monday PM. Talk with y'all then . . .
Best Regards, Spidey
