I am no help in your troubles. Sorry.

Have you tried to return your plans to Rob. It sounds like the baidarka is a real PITA. which is really too bad for how much he charges. this is really the first negative comment that I have heard about most plans, etc.

I was considering his larger boat over some of the other strippers out there just to see how it is. however, based on your info I think I may go with anotehr design.
