Ross I use epoxy only on the edbes of the bow and stern pieces, they are never completely aired out because the fabric is stapled on to them. The ribs seem do do quite well with just a few coats of good varnish. One thing to keep in mind is NEVER store the boats near the ground. Keep it as high as possible and if you cover it with plastic, leave an air space between the skin and the plastic. paul: I'm building a skin on frame kayak from Brink's book. I'm wondering what to coat the frame with to keep moisture (ie rot) under control. The book suggests using linseed oil, but I live in Seattle, and will probably have to keep the boat outdoors. Would epoxy be a better choice for a protective coating?
