I've been reading this BBS for sometime now and thought I'd introduce myself. I built 2 Pygmy boats last winter and am just starting my first strip project, a Wee Robbie canoe from Rob Mack's plans.

I live in PA, and although registration is voluntary, if you want to use either a state park lake or a Boat & Fish Commission site you must be registered with one or the other. The state park uses a sticker affixed on the right side aft of amidships and is $10/year. It is only good at state parks.

The Boat & Fish Commission is a full fledged registration with 3" numbers on every vessel including canoes except for hand powered/low volume craft like kayaks & windsurfers. This costs $10 for 2 years and for kayaks is a sticker approx 2" square that is affixed to each side of the bow. The only caveat to this is that you must prove you paid state sales tax and have a certificate of origin. My homebuilts were allowed to be registered as homebuilt (they were issued ID numbers) but I had to pay sales tax since they were purchased from Washington state. This registration is good in both state parks and Boat & Fish Commission sites.

The information contained in this BBS is great and has been an inspiration for me to try the strip builing process.
