I was considering a whitewater boat as a project a year or two ago--here's the fabric schedule that was recommended to me:
your butt ------------------ 5.0 Kevlar (1 full) -------------------------- 5.0 Carbon (partial) -------------------- 5.0 Kevlar (2 full) --------------------- 8.0 S-glass (1 full, 1 partial) ________ water
Carbon is very brittle, so to utilize its stiffness, you should put it between a couple of more flexible layers to keep it from fragmenting into your rear-end!
