Use a plane to shave of as much as possible before sanding with a coarse grit paper. Use a finer grit when you have removed most of the excess.
Get used to sanding, as you will be doing quite a bit!
If a plane will not fit into the area of the excess epoxy, use a wood chisel or a sharp utility knife or razorblade scraper where appropriate. Go slow so your tools don't slip and cut you or damage the wood.
The sooner you start working on this the softer the epoxy will be and the easier it will be to cut through. Once it gets very hard your options are pretty much limited to sanding.
Hope this helps.
