Need suggestions with bow & stern stems

Hi All;

I am building the Laughing Loon Georgian Bay and the plans called for allowing the keel strips at the bow and stern to separate as the strips were contoured to the form (Please see picture of bow below). When the hull construction is complete, a small strip is to be carved to fill in the "crack."

My "surfboard glassing friend" saw that crack, and thought it an excellent application of fiberglass rope - - Just drop it in the seam, wall up the sides with tape, and epoxy it in . . . Sounded very good to me! . . . Especially since otherwise, I'd have to carve the fill strips. I'm thinking of putting some Kevlar tape down the fore & aft stems below the waterline anyway, after seeing the "vanished" gelcoat on another friend's 3 year old polyester fiberglass kayak.

I'd appreciate comments and suggestions as to possible stem treatments, and especially what you think of the fiberglass rope treatment and Kevlar tape.

Thanks in advance and Best Regards, Spidey (Ken)
