All the sit on tops I have seen have been very wide compared to the types of kayaks usually discussed in this forum. In the neighborhood of 30 to 35 inches, I think. This makes sense when you think about the fact that they are self bailing. In order for the boat to be self bailing, the behind of the paddler has to be higher than the water line. I think this would make a boat with a 20 to 22 inch beam extremely tippy. You might want to think about modifying something like the Mill Creek design. Steve Davis
