Hi Chris;
Glad to hear you're starting a Guillemot! I put the sheer strips on with hot glue, and used my "plywood jigs" to hold it in place. Since most of those early hot glue joints are broken, I leave a few of those clamps in place just to secure the hull to the forms. I can't remember on whose site I saw U-shaped plywood clamping fixtures, but there is a pic on my site that shows what I made up. They were invaluable in many instances, providing enough strength to easily produce the sharp twists that would be beyond the scope of duct tape alone.
I had a roll of cheap duct tape when I started, and while it didn't stick well it left adhesive everywhere it touched. I have been using "Tuck Heavy Duty Contractor Grade" and it leaves no residue at all. It makes for a very good clamp. Again, Sam's Club stores have them at 3 big rolls (180 yards total) for $6.
Good Luck and Happy Building! Spidey
