Sound like a good innovation.

I've used a right angle grinder with a sanding disk which works well too but is kindof scary. It tends to dig in and requires a carful touch to control

I now use a peice of old bandsaw blade that i attacked with a file to make a flexible serrated knife. I made two wood handles for the ends. I use it to saw out chunks and as a scraper to do intermeiate shaping. I use coarse sandpaper for the final touchup. This is my weapon of choice.
