I think that minicell foam is EVA (ethyl-vinyl-acetate?) I'm sure the manufacturers of the foam blocks pour some sort of liquid into a mold to make "buns" of foam 4-5" thick which they then slice into useful sizes. I worked with some brightly colored foam made in china which i used to make 3-d puzzles. some showed raw edges that looked like that stuff you buy in a can for insullation.
