You hit the nail on the head. After seeing Kent's photos, it struck me how much the deck pattern looked like a 1940's rocket ship caracature. I spent an embarrasing amount of time searching the net for an appropriate picture to include in my post. I found the Flash Gordon rocket at http://www.imagesjournal.com/issue04/infocus.htm and thought it was pretty cool. You can almost imagine the string holding it up.
