Check out Pygmy boats - I built one of their boats and I love it. It is a lot cheaper than buying a good fiberglass kayak. Lighter and tougher too. Thats what got me into it. Had a great time building it. Now I am building my second Pygmy kit so I can take my friends out paddling. You can go cheaper by building from plans, but for my first boat I wanted to build it and get it out on the water in as short a time as possible. The kit was the right way for me to go.
